If you’re reading this, chances are high that yall step foot in a grocery store and some sort of healthy thoughts cross your mind, even if you swat them away the instant they pop up.

Have you ever been curious about eating healthy but don’t know where to start? You go down the fruit aisle, and can’t decide whether to choose apples, bananas, peaches or this dragonfruit thing that just appeared out of nowhere. Well, fruits are all healthy, right?

WRONG!

Kinda sorta, but not really, if you catch my drift. Everything in excess can be bad.

Let me explain.

Any fruit is better than a fatty cheeseburger, or some cookies that are jam packed with… well jam. Although this may be true, there is such a thing as a better fruit.

Each fruit has a different level of nutritional value and what it gives to your body.

Now, what can fruit donate to your body exactly?

  • Antioxidants
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Fiber
  • Sugar

Every single fruit has sugar, and that naturally occurring sugar is named fructose. Too much fructose can be bad though, especially if you’re diabetic, pre-diabetic, or already consuming other forms of sugar. The fruits that are highest in fructose are Raisins, Figs, Prunes, Peaches.(1) Now with that being said, that doesn’t mean you should never eat them, these do have benefits too,  just be aware and stay within balance.

The fruits with that contain the most benefits would be Blueberries, Blackberries, Cranberries, Strawberries, yeah you get the gist, the berries are the best. (2) Citrus fruits are up there as well though, not only are these low in fructose, which means lower in calories but they contain the most antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins, some of which that you can only obtain from these fruits.

If you have a staple fruit in your diet, any of the berries or citrus fruits will give you the most bang for the buck. Fruits are all amazing, both in flavor and their benefits, so experiment with them and see how you feel after. Once again, if you like watermelon or mangoes don’t take them out of your diet completely, enjoy them every now and then but just keep in mind that all fruits aren’t created equal.
